Imagine playing a game with the entire internet as your playground, vying for victory. This is precisely the scenario the team at Crypto The Game has orchestrated, rallying 800 players to compete for a total prize pool of 80ETH (equivalent to over $250K USD). Following a triumphant inaugural season, Crypto the Game (CTG) returns for another riveting 10-day stint, promising surprises, strategies, and camaraderie among tech-savvy crypto enthusiasts. The web3 creator says that he "started his career in TV. " I've just been a huge fan of live TV, reality competitions, and game shows, my entire life. I grew up an obsessive Survivor fan, you know, always wanted to be on the show. And I think it's just like one of those things where I always wanted to play a version of it online with my friends," says Abruscato.
CTG stands as a massive internet survivor game, where participants mint NFTs for entry, engage in challenges for immunity, strategically vote to eliminate rivals, as well as encounter a myriad of unexpected twists. Though players are randomly assigned to teams, only one lucky king or queen will win it all, and the funds are transferred to one crypto address.
In season 2, 800 individuals have minted tokens, poised to battle it out for the ultimate crypto prize over 10 intense days. At the time of this interview, we were just finishing day 5, and tension was high due to all types of problems in the "cabals," the decentralized groups formed in efforts to stay in the game and scheme immunity.
Dylan has been dreaming about creating his own reality game since playing Survivor Ultimate on CD-ROM. Today, the ex-Uber and Postmates startup builder has managed to build a game with a robust business model.
Our conversation delves into various topics, ranging from strategic gameplay to the genesis of this groundbreaking endeavor, sparking one of the most significant conversations in the crypto sphere to date. And on a lighter note, when asked about his favorite reality TV personality, Dylan confesses admiration for Kris Jenner. "I kind of assumed that in a show in a game like Squid Game or Survivor or Hunger Games, it would be very ruthless, like everyone would just like be backstabbing each other and like it'd be very cutthroat. But it's turning out to be like a very wholesome game," Abruscato reflects.
In a landscape where traditional entertainment mediums are growing stale, the girlies and bros crave drama and challenge. CTG fulfills these desires. The game encourages active problem-solving and social skills, with puzzles hidden across the internet and challenges that require varied abilities, like data science to community building to keep the vibes peaceful. Roughly 10-15% of the players are new to crypto, with the rest being more seasoned online folks, demonstrating the game's appeal across different interest groups.
Would you dare to play this game with your colleagues, knowing that your fate rests in their hands, subject to the whims of a democratic vote?
