Style in the new internet
Decoding AI Fashion
The inaugural AI Fashion Week has taken the new internet by storm, and Violet Verse is here to give you the inside scoop on this groundbreaking event. Digital fashion and ai design aesthetics promise to increase the fidelity of the garment and the person instantly. Right now, the more significant majority express themselves using 2D clothing, but the rising popularity of digital fashion is quickly becoming mass adopted.
After four months of hard work and dedication by the Maison Meta team, the first AI Fashion Week is finally here! Maison Meta, a fashion tech startup, launched the idea with a simple poll on their Instagram story, which received an overwhelming response from digital fashion enthusiasts worldwide.
They parsed through more than 400 submissions from designers around the globe to what is now home to app.fashionweek.ai, an immersive showcase and voting channel to name the top AI fashion creators. The team of digital fashion evangelists chose 130 qualifying collections, which are now available for public viewing both at Spring Studios in New York City and online via a web app until May 2023. In partnership with REVOLVE, the winning images will be invited to an AI Fashion Incubator, created by Maison Meta and Revolve, where the winners will create their brand, produce their collection and sell it online on Revolve.com. The idea of buying some of these pieces makes fashion ahead of the Verse.
According to Chat GPT:
When it comes to digital fashion, fidelity refers to the accuracy and quality of the digital representation of a physical garment. In other words, fidelity is the degree to which a digital garment accurately represents its physical counterpart in terms of design, texture, and movement.
For example, a high-fidelity digital garment would accurately replicate the texture and color of a physical fabric, and move realistically when animated. This level of fidelity requires a high level of skill and attention to detail in the digital design process, as well as sophisticated software and tools.
One of the standout collections of the week was created by a gem crystal dealer turned AI designer Sierra Nawabi. They used Mid Journey to generate unique crystal designs for various garments - shoes, fur coat looks, and purses. Each image featured energetic healing and futuristic visions, with stunning silhouettes and bold aesthetics that left us in awe.
Another highlight was the collection by Opé called Emergence, which showcased how they are pushing the boundaries of afro-futuristic AI models. It's giving Coming To America meets Downton Abbey nouveau. Their Discord server is popping with Metaverse fashion information if you want to explore more of their work. Overall, their images not only look stunning, but they also had the ability to call on the past and merge it with the present.
But it wasn't just about the digital fashion on the runway. It was a glimpse into how AI will shape and project the humans in imaginable ways. Unlike traditional designers, these new creators are highly technical and early adopters. At the time of publishing this, Mid Journey is still in beta, you have to apply to gain access to the program!
In other words, we no longer have limitations due to technology. We can create our wildest dreams based on the savvy AI prompting and generation skills. If personal allows us to tell a story about who we are as a culture, it's clear that the fashion industry will continue to be at the forefront of technological advancement, and we can't wait to see what the next AI Fashion Week has in store. ✨
