"Supporting a regulatory framework for cryptocurrency and other digital assets so Black men who invest in and own these assets are protected."

As the clock ticks towards one of the most pivotal Presidential Elections in internet history, Vice President Kamala Harris  is making a bold move: she's launching a competitive campaign strategy aimed at one of her toughest critics—Black men. It's no secret that during her time as Vice President and in the political spotlight, Harris has faced a significant amount of backlash from this demographic. Particularly many have been displeased her record as a prosecutor and her role in incarcerating Black men.  But now, that's all hearsay and as she races towards becoming the 47th President of the United States, Harris has thrown down a queen card -- unveiling a 9-page agenda that addresses their concerns head-on.

Crypto Gets A Hue

The agenda is packed with proposals tailored to tackle key issues Black men face, including:

  1. Offering 1 million fully forgivable loans to Black entrepreneurs and others looking to start a business.
  2. Championing education, training, and mentorship programs that will help Black men secure well-paying jobs in high-demand industries, while also providing pathways to leadership roles, including opportunities to become educators.
  3. Advocating for a regulatory framework around cryptocurrency and digital assets, ensuring that Black men who invest in or own these assets are protected.
  4. Launching a National Health Equity Initiative specifically for Black men, targeting health issues like sickle cell disease, diabetes, mental health, and prostate cancer—conditions that disproportionately affect them.
  5. Legalizing recreational marijuana and creating opportunities for Black Americans to thrive in this growing industry.

One of the more creative parts of Harris’s plan focuses on cryptocurrency aka digital assets. According to the docket, over 20% of Black Americans have owned or currently own cryptocurrency. Looking back to what I reported in The Root in 2021, the story is unfolding wonderfully. Black Americans in general continue to be at the pinnacle of financial innovation and will not dare to be left behind. Moreover, many crypto influencers are Black men and when I'm out in the normie world, there's always a Black male eager to talk about the latest crypto tokens they've invested in.

Harris is committed to ensuring that Black men who hold digital assets can benefit from financial innovation. She aims to implement a protective regulatory framework that broadens access to banking and financial services, empowering Black men and others to thrive in the digital economy.

She's intentionally extending an olive branch in the final stretch.

Whether this “Hail Mary” approach will resonate with Black men in the final stretch of the election remains to be seen but its a great way to get attention and raise consideration. In general—Harris is making it clear that she's listening and ready to take risks to capture the wallets of Black men.
